Nuts and Bolts - Hiding in the Garbage
We're back with another installment of Nuts and Bolts - our segment about stupid criminals and how they're connected to Jeep. This week:
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A stolen Jeep came inches from crashing through an Orlando business early Thursday morning. Three teenage boys were caught and are behind bars after leading police on chase and then trying to make a run for it on foot.
Officers in Orlando arrested three teens who were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Police said the boys were spotted in a stolen Jeep near John Young Parkway around 1:00am Thursday morning.
The driver refused to pull over. He stopped when he crashed the vehicle in front of a commercial building.
"As we approached Shader Road, the vehicle slowed down. It came through this business. It just coasted through here. I do believe the whole time it had a flat tire," said Bruce Lincoln of the Orlando Police Department.
Two of the teens were arrested right away. Catching up with the driver, however, was not as easy. It took six police dogs and nearly an hour to find him hiding in a garbage can nearby.
"He was bitten several times. Once in the leg, arm, hand. Officers arrived and gave the command for the dog to release the subject," said Sgt. Danny Schad of the Orlando Police Department.
The teen who fled has been charged with grand theft auto. But, because he hit the police dog while trying to avoid getting caught, he'll also be looking at felony battery on a K-9.
