TAG Center Gauge Mount

Gauge Console Pros:

  • Mounting area for switches and gauges

Cons:

  • Quite bulky on the dash area
  • Cost factor - seems overpriced for what it is
  • No pre-drilled holes for gauges
  • No installation instructions.
  • Visually not attractive
  • Designed more for gauges and not switches

"Need more gauges but don't want the hassle and bulk of some other gauge pods? TAG makes installing gauges in your Wrangler easy & stylish". Talk about a catch line! I did need a place to mount more switches inside my TJ Wrangler. This little product seemed like it would fit the purpose and serve it well too. Boy, I was wrong. According to the description, the center pod is supposed to hold three gauges and a couple of switches and for the price, it seemed like a great buy. It mounts with adhesive tape or it can be screwed to the dash using the optional screws. I decided to use the adhesive tape on my install and I am glad I did, since I uninstalled it about just as quick as I installed it.

The TAG Center Gauge Mount Pod is made from ABS plastic to resist fading and cracking, which is a good thing except, visually I thought this thing is just too big for my dash. Once mounted, it was like a huge hill that always seemed to be in the way. My eyes were always drawn to this massive lump of black plastic sitting a top where my coins used to lay. I purchased this pod for switch mounting and not gauge mounting so that could have been partially the problem. If they made one shorter that could be used for switches specifically, then I would give this product another try.

All in all, if you dont have gauges to mount in the middle of the dash, I would steer clear of the TAG Center Gauge Mount Pod. Opt for one of their other "pillar" mounts and give your gauges a nice uniform look. Until then, I will just keep waiting to find the right pod for switches!
